Khorezm area is located in the north-west of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It occupies the territory of 6,1 thousand square kilometers—1,4% of the whole territory of Uzbekistan. Population is 1,8 million people. 32,8% of the population is living in cities, and 67,2% of the population is living in villages. The northernmost point of the area is Gurlan. The southernmost point is situated a little bit far from Tuprakala (or Tuprak Qala).

Khorezm area includes Urgench city (the centre of the province) and regions—Borot, Gurlan, Kushkupir, Urganch, Khazorasp, Khonka, Khiva, Shovot, Pitnak, Yangiarik and Yangibozor.
